There have been some reports about a new experiment that Google is conducting to let users move an item in search result up or down, or even hide it. It also apparently allows users to add an url to the search result if you think that url should have been part of search result but is actually missing.

At this point it’s not clear if it only changes the local view, or will it have any impact on the site rankings in general but I think the whole point of this exercise would be to get users inputs in making the search more intelligent. Just changing the local view just not buy much.

Some may be concerned about this being misused by certain people to increase the ranking of their own site, but given how vast internet is, that won’t work since there would be a bunch of other people who will pull the result down unless it really belongs up there. They may be essentially trying to use the Wikipedia model which has been hugely successful.

You need to go to Google experiment page and sign up for a specific experiment. I also seems that this particular experiment is not visible to all the users yet and even if you see it, it will be in effect only while you’re signed into your Google account.

Do share your experience if it worked for you!
